Rev. Samuel Edwards, an Episcopal priest and a traditionalist long at odds with what are widely viewed as heterodox innovations in theology and discipline by substantial parts of the denomination, has announced that he will leave the Episcopal Church and join the Anglican Province of Christ the King.



After years of service in Fort Worth, Texas, Fr. Edwards had been chosen as rector of Christ Church in Accokeek, Maryland, an action leading to a lengthy legal battle with the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and its acting bishop Jane Holmes Dixon.



In announcing his decision, Fr. Edwards wrote: "I have done all that I can do in the effort to recall the Episcopal Church to its godly heritage of evangelical faith and catholic order. That effort, and my part in it, appears to have been unsuccessful."
