There is no contradiction here. The violet sadness and melancholy that can mark All Souls Day is rightly balanced by reminders of the natural glories that God has placed before us and within which we live. The glories which, in their beauty sometimes majestic and sometimes homely, are also intimations of the day when we will be raised incorruptible and live in the presence of The King in His Beauty.
