I was listening last night to The Lauds of Saint Ursula performed by the musicians of the Early Music Institute at Indiana University under Thomas Binkley. It's a fine recording of an exceptional work by Saint Hildegard of Bingen, the mystic, theologian, abbess, proto-scientist and composer whose memorial is celebrated today.



God works where He wills, to the glory of His Name not that of earthly man. Indeed I have always a trembling fear, since I know no safety of any possibility in myself. But I stretch out my hand to God that I might be upheld by Him as if by a wing that lacks every weight of force and flies through the wind.
