Theodore of Tarsus, sixth successor of Saint Augustine in the see of Canterbury, is remembered in the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Anglican calendars today. Venerable Bede writes in the Ecclesiastical History that he was "the first archbishop that all the English Church obeyed." Theodore was consecrated as Archbishop of Canterbury by Pope Vitalian in Rome in 668 and arrived in England the following year in the company of Hadrian the African and Benedict Biscop, a trio of really remarkable talent and gifts.
