September 19 marks the memorial of Saint Januarius, the bishop of Benevento who was martyred in the persecutions under Diocletian in 304. San Gennaro is the patron of Naples and also in a sense the patron of American street festivals. This is the 75th year that San Gennaro will be celebrated in festival in Manhattan's Little Italy.
