I was browsing last week in Jaroslav Pelikan's Jesus Through The Centuries in search of a memory. Located the fact I needed without much effort but found it difficult, as had happened before, to put the book down. The author's immense erudition, lightly worn, is engaged in description of the Man like none other and His place in the history of culture.



Which leads today to another reference that I owe to Andrew Jones. He recommended a visit to Canada's Virtual Museum. David J. Goa, the curator of the exhibit Anno Domini there, acknowledges Jaroslav Pelikan as "an inspiration and touchstone for our work."



And the inscription that the great scholar chose for his masterful survey -- nihil amori Christi praeponere -- should be a prayer ever on our lips. Let nothing be preferred to the love of Christ.
