It had been a while, so I was listening this morning to Early American Choral Music, anthems and fuging tunes by William Billings (1746-1800). The CD is a collection of remarkable performances by Paul Hillier and His Majestie's Clerkes of the very fine music of Billings. If you're not familiar with the composer or the performers, accept this as a very strong recommendation.



There are no weak selections on the CD, but the setting of David's lamentation is haunting and especially fine.
